Stillness creates the essential space for the nervous system to cultivate calm

The ripples of the mind are like waves in a small pond, finding calm allows the water to show it’s great depth and clarity. Allow your mind to do the same while you remain still and quiet during your meditation, working through discomfort by breathing in your posture.

What are Yin and Yang Energies?

  • Yin is a receptive energy with the characteristics of stillness, darkness, cool, calm, nurturing, feminine, passive, and restful.

    • Too Much Yin: Can lead to lethargy, lack of motivation, and feeling passive.

  • Yang is an active energy with the characteristics of action, hot, energetic, assertive, masculine, and movement.

    • Too Much Yang: Can lead to restlessness, agitation, and inability to accept things outside one's control.

What we aim for is homeostasis in the body, our natural balance. To reach this, we invite a practice of stillness to balance the “Yang” energy that dominates our day-to-day life. Stillness in meditation creates the essential space for the nervous system to calm so you can see through your thoughts and feelings without being swept away by them, bringing the body back into rest when needed.

Take a moment to practice stillness, noticing how it feels to sit with your discomforts. Notice how practicing stillness alongside your breathing helps to subdue any physical sensations or mental waves of the mind.
