IN THIS LESSON
Posture is key in our meditation practice.
Proper posture allows for a full breath to be taken on your inhale. Whether you are sitting, standing, or practicing meditative walking, you can align your posture using these three main points of alignment: the head, heart, and hips.
3 Main Alignment Points
Head — Whether seated or standing, elongate the spine, lifting the crown, or top of the head toward the ceiling
Heart — Whether seated or standing, open the chest by pushing your collar bones away from each other, letting the shoulder roll back and down away from your ears
Hips — If seated, pull the diaphragm downwards towards the hips, rooting your seated posture through your sit bones. If standing, allow the hips to be neutral with the core softly engaged by feeling the belly button pulled in toward the spine, flattening out the small of your lower back.
Take a moment to feel these three main alignment points in our posture. This posture will be our foundation for the remainder of our practice.
